Assembly Catch Up

Oh my! It is hard to keep the blog up to date with all the learning and business we get up to.
There have been three assemblies since our last assembly post. There was one in the hall hosted by Room 14. We showed our sunflower drawings at that. Another was held in Room 17 and hosted by a collection of remarkable presenters. Finally we went to another assembly in the hall yesterday that Room 19 hosted.
Congratulations to these children who received certificates at these assemblies.

We were awarded the Heather Trophy again. Some spies discovered that our cloakroom was very tidy!
Now we are spying on the other classes for next time.
Here's a photo of Freddie and Aroha in thier mufti.
Thanks for bringing a donation towards KIDS@HEART.
We raised $738.50.

Birthdays Galore!

Not only is it my Billy and my Dad's birthday today, it is also Mrs Sutherland's birthday. We all crept up on the year one assembly and ambushed mrs Sutherland. She got glittered!

Treasure Me Hearties!

This was in the form of new reading books from the National Library. Don't forget to tell your family about a great new library book you read today.
It was fun to read the Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed by our mate Mo.
There is a fun game to play about dressing Wilbur on Mo's website.
There is also a link to some interesting naked mole rat facts from our Extra Reading Links page.

Marvellous Mo!

Unfortunately I'm sick today. Fortunately that means I have time to check out my favourite websites to see what's happening. Of course I went to Mo Willems' website, and there I found this inspiring video about his writing. I think you'll enjoy it.

Buddy Class Learning

On Friday we invited our buddy class, Room 23, to come and do some observational drawing with us. We were drawing lemons and tangelos that had been cut in half.

Autumn Beauty

Belah and I made a flower out of autumn leaves. We noticed something that looked like a pile of leaves. Then I said,
"Since we have so many leaves let's make a flower."
We did. We put some grass in the middle.

Cone and Coin Running

We are playing a variety of games and other activities to develop our running for the cross country next term.
I was excited because Room 17 were playing the cone and coin running game. It was really fun. We had to run in a group. The other people in my group were Brooke and Evie. My group and I ran to the oak tree first to put our cone down.
This is how the game works. You have to run to the place written on your cone. There you will find another cone - everyone has to touch the cone and then you run to the place written on that cone.
We tried to do team work. Some of us went speedy, some of us went slowly and some of us had to slow down. I was puffed but I still ran.
This game gives you exercise.

Amazing ABC

Today Midori brought along her family's fabulous ABC book. We all love this book, it has very clever paper engineering and design ideas in it.  Here's a video of the book.
I also discovered that the author and creator of the book won a prize named after another author who created 3D books a long time ago here is an article about that.

Buzz Bar Fever

Lucy was the first person to win a Buzz Bar in 2014. Buzz Bar is a great game to play with your family. It's fun and you don't need any equipment to play it.
It goes like this:

  • You count forwards (or backwards) in ones.
  • When you come to a number you use when counting in fives, ie 5, 10, 15, 20 etc you say BUZZ instead of the number.
  • When you come to a  number that you use when counting in tens ie 10, 20, 30 etc you say BAR. As you are already saying BUZZ for the 10, 20 and 30 it becomes BUZZ BAR.

March Madness

Today we had to draw pictures of ourselves looking awful. It was really strange and challenging to do. We used mirrors, photo booth on the computers and screen shots to help us see what we look like when we're moaning, yelling, seething and all sorts of other unpleasant things. We used these awful pictures to make this fabulous book.

Wet Playtime

I was very lucky Riley had brought some large gumboots to school today. Have a look and find out why!

Here's an interesting and surprising thing we noticed today...
The U.V. beads still had some colour sitting on the window sill
