Matua Thomas's Famous Friend

Matua Thomas wrote a wonderful song for Te Kura o Hato Opani. He used the tune from a U2 song (Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For) to go with the words. He sent a message to Bono who said he thought it was great that St Albans School was using his tune for a song all about us.
The Year Three team have been learning that song this term and will perform it on Friday next week for family and friends.
I have made a practice video for you to use to practise the words and actions. It isn't really one to show your family because the recording was done a while ago and you sound much better now! I've made a new page called Singing Pratice.

English Park Performance

What a beautiful afternoon for an outdoor performance at English Park. It was almost as warm there as it was at the rest home yesterday!
The Room 17 Folk Dancers perform for the school.

Te Mahuri Kapa Haka

The Haka
Hunter made a connection between our performance and the Te Mahuri's performance. He suggested they are both dances from "past times".

Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori

Today we welcomed Te Ra, Mihiana and Gabrielle from TTRR in Room 17. They wanted to share some of their language with us in Māori Language Week.
We will make a real effort to pronounce the beginning of the national anthem correctly. We were impressed by their mihi and are looking forward to learning one ourselves.
This week we have been practising how to ask each other how we are feeling and talking about the weather in Māori. We are also learning how to ask someone to bring us something.

Kapa Haka

Today we went to kapa haka for the first time. We learned the Ōtautahi Haka which is all about rising up and being strong here in Christchurch.
If you click this link you'll be able to practise the words for the super haka.
This link shows the actions for the kōtiro (girls), if you are looking for the actions for tama (boys) they are here.
