Shadow Play

For writing today we worked together to write a poem about our shadows. At first we wrote all the words we could think of that were about shadows. Next we tried to shape those ideas and words into a poem. We now understand how difficult it is to write poems!

Shadow, shadow where are you?
Somewhere where the skies are blue?
Oh we wish you would return
To help us play, have fun and learn.

We love it when you stay nearby
When the sun is in the sky.
Come and pounce and dance and play
Keep us company all the day.

We were so excited to see the sun today we decided to go out and play with our shadows!

Heart Baskets

We have begun making Swedish Heart Baskets. They are tricky but very clever and pretty. There is a good YouTube clip about making them but the spelling and language is a bit funky and weird.

Reading this week...

We're putting all the great skills and book knowledge we've learned this term to the test this week. We are inviting year one classes to Room 17 to read to them. Not only are we reading the book but we are also trying to get them to talk about the book and share their ideas about it.


We will be reading to another class tomorrow. You can find a favourite book from home to read and then you can have some practice tonight. If you don't have a little brother or sister maybe Mum or Dad would pretend!

Royal Visit

Some children went to see the Duke and Duchess in town today but some people just saw her in Room Seventeen at playtime. (She won the look alike contest even!)

Community Quilt

Thanks to Ms Douglas for making the creative quilt squares with us! You will be able to see the real things when they go on display with all the other children's work, in the hall.

Orana Park 2013

Wet Trip on Tuesday

Oh dear the weather for our Orana Park trip looks a bit wet. We WILL still be going so hunt out your best raincoat and maybe even your gumboots.
