Time For Your Own Investigation
We have spent a lot of time recently looking at how things have changed. We went to Ferrymead and experienced what life might have been like 100 years ago. We thought about WHY things changed. Now we are going to investigate how one particular area is going to change into the future.
You came up with these ideas: jobs, schools, houses, transport, aircraft, fashion, shops, cities and sports gear. You will need to pick one of these ideas (or come up with another) to study further.

That's Not a Good Idea!
Today we enjoyed a production of Mo Willems' book That is NOT a Good Idea!
The presenters used great expressions and gestures to enhance the story. Hmm - does that remind you of anything else we've talked about recently - possibly your poems for the poetry competition?

Paying it Forward
When we heard that the junior classrooms and the library at Paraparaumu Primary School had been damaged in a fire we decided we wanted to send them messages of aroha and hope.
After the Christchurch earthquakes many children from all over New Zealand sent us messages letting us know they were thinking of us. It made us feel good. Now is our chance to pay that support forward. We hope our messages and cards do give them hope. We also sent them the books we won during Book Week in the Book Olympics - we know they'll love them.

Fabulous Ferrymead
Didn't we have a fantastic time time traveling today? There are more photos and information to come, but YouTube has not been my friend this evening. Mr Black never had problems like that!!!
Thanks to the wonderful parent helpers who came with us today, Leanne, Tracy, Christo and Bridget.

Typing Across the Decades
Lily brought this wonderful example of a typewriter. Her great grandfather used it for his work.
You all came up with some interesting differences and similarities between it and my laptop. It was also a great item to use as the observational drawing model.
Today Riley brought this Dial Typewriter that his great grandmother had been given when she was five.
A google search told us that it was a designed as a toy.
What will the machines we use to "type" our ideas be like in the future?
I remember my mum playing this orchestral piece to me on a record once. What's a record? Well that's another whole story...
FERRYMEAD
Tomorrow (Tuesday 19th August) we are going to Ferrymead. The bus will leave at 9.05 - you don't want to miss it! Please be at school by 8.45. You need to be in uniform and to have lunch and morning tea.

Ironing Through TIme
Evie lugged this heavy, old black iron to school today. It certainly got us talking about how life has changed in the last hundred years.
Your How Does It Work?writing demonstrated you were able to think about different features of the irons and help your readers learn about them too.
I don't do much ironing, but I'm mighty pleased the iron I use is the plug in variety! The miracle of the www has meant that I have found a website with lots of information about irons and their history, you might like to explore this.

Tessellation Time
Tessellations are fun and a little bit addictive! There are lots of websites that have printable tessellation templates (try saying that fast 10 times!).

Impromptu Folk Dance Demonstration
What a lovely afternoon for an impromptu dance demo! I think many of you had family members admiring your fancy footwork!
Here is that link to the new dance we learnt today. I'm still searching for a catchy tune to dance it to.
