Practise your pairs to ten with this fun butterfly game.
You might recognise some of the little kids in this clip made in 2012.
Lucy was the first person to win a Buzz Bar in 2014. Buzz Bar is a great game to play with your family. It's fun and you don't need any equipment to play it.
It goes like this:
- You count forwards (or backwards) in ones.
- When you come to a number you use when counting in fives, ie 5, 10, 15, 20 etc you sayBUZZ instead of the number.
- When you come to a number that you use when counting in tens ie 10, 20, 30 etc you say BAR. As you are already saying BUZZ for the 10, 20 and 30 it becomes BUZZ BAR.
If you have lost them you could make some at home.
Here's how:
You will need six cards, and a pen.
In the corner of each card on both sides write a 10 and circle it.
In the middle of one card write a 0 then turn it over and write 10
On the next card write 1 on one side and 9 on the other.
The next card has 2 in the middle of one side and 8 on the other.
3 goes with 7.
4 goes with 6.
5 goes with 5.
Now you spread them on the floor and you have to remember what number goes with the number you can see to make 10. Turn the card over and check you were right.
Maths activities to try at home!
Use your ten sided dice (Mrs Ross has these at the office $2 for 2).
1) Roll your dice and add the total together. - How many totals can you write down in a minute?
Do this again and try and beat your first score!
2) Roll your dice and subtract the biggest number from the smallest to
find a total. - How many totals can you write down in a minute?
Do this again and try and beat your first score!
If you haven't got your dice yet you could make some using the link below.

Soon you'll be getting a little plastic bag with some basic fact cards to learn and practise. Until then you could play some games from the St Albans Maths Blog. There is a link at the side of this blog.
